The “Older American Job Market” is a slap in the face to the mothers and fathers that developed this country. In today's economy, it is all about short term results which means its about short term employment! So, what is the person, that's over 50 without a job, supposed to do?

When I was a kid, my father worked for a company for 30 years, had a pension, and was able to set my mother up with a monthly residual after he was gone. That is no longer the case for the older American.

Today, those people over 50 years old, either need to hold on to their current job, or find another option, especially if they have been part of a downsizing activity.

The main problem with the older American job market is that there are younger Americans that can come in and do the job at half the cost and, because Wall Street demands that companies continue to create more of a profit, quarter over quarter, sometimes the only thing left that these companies can do, is slash payroll expense. In other words; lay off the older worker to bring on the younger worker. What they end up doing is slitting their own throats as the quality of their workers goes down.

With that said, what options are there for the older worker? I mean, if you are over 50 and lose your job, what and where are you supposed to go when your competition is half the cost? There are options out there, but the majority take a lot of upfront cash; franchises, a college education, and business development.
